Starigrad Paklenica is a picturesque dalmatian coastal town at the bottom of Croatia’s largest mountain range – the Velebit, located about 40 km higher north of Zadar. The town emerged from the ancient town Argyruntum and was first mentioned during the Roman Age.
Today Starigrad is the heart of the Paklenica Riviera, a coastal region, 20 km long, where the mountains meet the sea. Due to its geographical position Starigrad-Paklenica presents the entry to the National park Paklenica with its two monumental canyons: Velika and Mala Paklenica. The National Park belongs to the UNESCO list of Biosphere Reservations.
The short walking distance to the nearby pebble beach (just 50 m away from Pensione Ivan) invites the entire family and particularly children to spend all day at the beach, having fun and doing water sports. There are various sports facilities in our immediate neighbourhood (tennis, soccer, basketball, surfing, jet-ski).
Each year in spring and fall a large number of adventurers from all over the world gather at Paklenica as various competitions of adventure sports take place, such as the annual Big Wall Speed Climbing competion. Even all through winter, the mild mediterranean climate permits extended walking and hiking tours as well as beach walks in Paklenica’s pristine nature.
